ORGANISING CONTENT IN SLACK
- you can use the bookmark symbol at messages to save them for later – you can adapt the setting if you click on the 3 dots and personalize your settings so it will also show you the bookmarks
- Collecting all your important tasks by just clicking on the star symbol next to the time stamp
- you can gather all important information in a canvas directly in slack
NAVIGATION & Dealing with Slack
- Looking to become a slack-superstar? Well, AppSumo provided a very worthwhile video with 10 tips, to use slack like a pro!
- Search with Filters: You can use Slack’s search bar and apply filters like “from:@username” or “in:channel name” to narrow down your search results
- Have you tried klicking the little “/” symbol at the bottom right of the text editor? It lets you execute various commands that could come in handy
- There are so much shortcuts for boosting your activity here (only for laptops, tablets, computers)
- longread posts <= this feature is no longer available
FORMATTING / EDITING
- How to create bolded, italic or crossed text
- important shortcuts in slack for mac and windows
- My favourite keyboard shortcut: To insert a hyperlink, (copy the hyperlink first) just select the text you wanna link and
cmd+v
(Mac) orctrl+v
(Windows) - you can edit/correct messages you’ve already sent. For that just move you cursor to your message and click on the the dots “…” next to your written message.
MEDIA AND APPS IN SLACK
- you can extend functionality by using zapier for automated actions – similar tool ifttt – used to use ifttt but then switched to zapier because it has more functionalities with a lot of freeware in marketing
- some of the apps I love using with Slack – Asana and Google Drive
- you can connect with MS Teams
- you can make sure you avoid bias in your writing and are inclusive by adding this extension to slack – similar purpose: discourages the usage of non-inclusive language and provides better alternatives
- It’s very handy for polls as well. No matter what the issue is, you can get a decision in a snap with a team poll in a specific channel. You can either use the emoji responses to run a poll (like in the screenshot), or add a dedicated app like Polly or Simple Poll to have access to advanced features like anonymous or regular polls
- you can add your Google Calendar
Support learning
- one of the useful and in my opinion important functions are reminders that could be set up and customized as you want. That is a great tool that could help us not to forget about our tasks, etc.
- activate the Huddle function (located at the bottom left among team members). This allows you to start a call with another team member or multiple people in a very simple and fast way.
- One thing that helped me to not loose the overview is to set the notification settings in your personal profil. So you don‘t get mails, desktop notification etc. all at once. And you can also pause the notifications if you want to take a break.
- Set up your notifications schedule so you can protect your personal time (if that is what you want of course)
- At the top of your Direct message panel, there’s your name and (you) DM. You can dm yourself with notes, reminders, or stuff that you want to keep somewhere only accessible to you
- Maybe for all the procrastinators in here Mark messages as unread by simply click on the three dots.
Connecting & Communication
- I am looking forward to create our own emojis – explanation in English

- Set a status: If you look in the upper left corner of Slack to find your login name. Just select it. This will open a new window. might be useful to tell the others what you are currently doing!
- You can add the Giphy app to Slack and then share super funny memes
- If you want that Slack speaks English with you you can change the language in the personal preferences.
- How do we know about who reacted to our post, thread, discussion or reply? – on the laptop: Hover your mouse cursor over the reaction emoji. You should see a tooltip displaying the names of the people who reacted with that emoji. On the mobile: long press on the emoji and you will be able to see the names
