Game-based Learning – links & material

Aktuell arbeitet das ZML am Projekt Video-Games 4 Teachers – and soon the first products and results will be visible here.

For me it is a real challenge to include a game-based learning approach into my teaching and training. Shouldn’t I be a serious teacher personality full of wisdom?

Playing – some aspects

The Role of Play: freedom to fail, freedom to experiment, freedom to fashion identities, freedom of effort; and freedom of interpretation (Klopfer, p4)

Learning Principles (Gee)

  • Well-Order Problems: problems are ordered, there are different levels, players form hypotheses that work well for later, harder problems
  • Challenge and Consolidation: Learners develop skills to solve problems in a level, then the game throws a new class of problem at the players – Gerade in den ersten Levels von Candy Crush werden die Spielenden besonders unterstützt, einzelne Candy-Arten kennenzulernen.
  • Performance Before Competence: Players can perform before they are competent, supported by the design of the game. They are supported by the “smart tools” and/or other, more advanced players.
